Report: Magna International may build Ford’s electric car

Ford confirmed at this week's Detroit Auto Show that it would launch an all-electric compact car in 2011 that it plans to develop jointly with automotive parts supplier and independent vehicle manufacturer Magna International. Magna has been building whole cars for a number of carmakers in Europe for years but this would be the first time in recent history that a parts supplier would be doing final assembly on a contract basis for a North American carmaker. Speaking with Automotive News, Magna CEO Don Walker said any deal would depend on volume.
