Ford to revive Capri as a three-door hatchback

Ford recently celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the Ford Capri, at which point we wondered if Ford would ever visit the iconic coupe. According to AutoExpress, the Capri will make a comeback in 2010 as a hatchback and will be a new 3-door version of the Ford Focus.

Hoping to compete with the likes of the Volkswagen Scirocco, Ford is reinventing the Capri into a stylis hatchback. Think of it as a coupe-like-hatchback with a heavily chopped appearance at the back.

Design will be influenced by the Ford iosis Max Concept that was shown at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The iosis Max Concept will also set the stage for the rest of the next-generation Focus lineup along with the next C-Max.

Power will come from the 1.6L 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine that made its first debut in the Lincoln Concept C - it was also featured on the iosis Max Concept. The engine produces up to 180-hp while providing fuel-economy that is 20 percent better than the conventional gasoline engines.

The Europeans will also get a 1.6L TDCi that will make 128-hp along with a 2.0L making up to 197-hp.

We may also see an RS version powered by the Focus RS’s current 300-hp 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo.
